Our History

We were teenagers in 1996 when an Egura like flash idea crossed our minds looking at the semidesert Araya Peninsula in Sucre, Venezuela; my best friends Juan Carlos Raffensperger López and César Augusto Dommar Valerio and I were driving by the southern coast road around Cariaco Gulf, with Araya there to the North, a ref strip of land, historical where Humboldt described Jaguars once, and where Dutch traded pearls, French buccaneers attacked, and Spain built a large Salt industry centuries ago.

We were talking about how to get a greener Araya, a less thirsty people, a more independent society: we thought first into ‘injecting’ seawater to the Earth Cortex as the well known principle of ‘more meters down the ground more Celsius degrees in temperature, so we could boil seawater underground and recover steam on surface terrain to harvest pressure (energy) and re condense water vapor to get freshwater… Maybe that could also work in future Egura Farms, certainly we will try it out too, but, there stayed that spark of neurons in 3 young brains, but 17 years later, in an adult part of my life, very apart, geographically from my beloved friends (one in Calgary, one still in Cumaná, our home),

I was in the public library of Uharte, Navarre, my new hometown since I came here self-exiled, an ex-pat from totalitarian Venezuela, in 2013. That very year I started, invented the word ‘Egura’ from the 2 words of paleolithic living fossil language, the Basque, Euskera, the language of my father’s ancestors: Eguzki (Sun) + Ura (Water).
